president Jonathan and Ameachi meets with rivers monarch over land issue
President Goodluck Jonathan Saturday met with a high powered delegate from Rivers State to discuss the contentious issue of oil wells-cum-border dispute that has pitted his home state, Bayelsa against Rivers fuelling accusations that he may be behind the matter in favour of his kins men.
Jonathan, sources had told to our news desk, that the president was supposed to meet the two parties, but no reason was given for the separate meeting with the Rivers delegates alone.
The Rivers State delegate led by the state Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, who was accompanied by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, who is also the Chairman of Rivers State Boundary Commission, comprised of notable monarchs under the aegis of the Kalabari National Forum (KNF).
According to a source at the meeting, which lasted more than one hour inside the State House Press Gallery, the president explored means of peacefully reconciling the differences over what some indigenes of Rivers claim was the excision of some oil wells belonging to their communities.
